ZTE Light Pro 7-inch Android Froyo tablet launches in Spain

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Let's get something clear right from the start: I don't understand why anyone would buy a tablet running Android 2.2 Froyo in 2011. The ZTE Light Pro (which may or may not be a redone ZTE Light) is such an offering, and what it lacks OS-wise (Honeycomb has been out for a while now, ZTE!) it makes up in price.

The ZTE Light Pro is available from Movistar in Spain. It's got a 7-inch touchscreen, a 600 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, 3G, microSD support, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 3 MP camera, and a 1440 mAh battery.

The tablet has been sold by Movistar for about a month, and you can get it for free if you get a €49 per month data plan. If you'd rather get a cheaper, €39 per month data package, you'll need to pay €19 for the ZTE Light Pro upfront. Business customers pay up to €119 for the tablet, depending on which contract they choose to sign up for.

So here's the lowdown: the ZTE Light Pro impresses through price alone. The specs are mediocre at best, the operating system version it runs is designed for phones, not tablets… on the other hand, it's cheap. So if you're in Spain and absolutely must have a tablet, regardless of its performance, you probably could look at this and find it interesting. If so, just go to Movistar and order yourself one.
