ZTE V9A Light Tab II officially announced for the UK

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

ZTE V9A Light Tab II officially announced for the UK
Last month the UK retailer Clove informed us of the existence of the ZTE V9A Light Tab II, which it started taking pre-orders for. This is a rather affordable 7-inch Android tablet with 3G connectivity built in. Unfortunately, it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is an OS version designed with phones, not tablets, in mind. And it's unlikely to ever be updated to anything else.

Still, for a 3G-enabled 7-inch tablet the £234.99 price isn't that bad. The ZTE Light Tab II is still up for pre-order at Clove, with shipping projected to start in late February or early March.

Today though, ZTE has decided to officially announce the Light Tab II for the UK. Apparently the tablet is already on sale in Spain, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. The press release that the Chinese company has put out doesn't go into any details regarding a possible release date in Blighty.

The ZTE Light Tab II will have a 7-inch 1024x600 touchscreen, a 1.4 GHz single-core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage, microSD card support, a 3.2 MP rear camera, a 0.3 MP front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 14.4 Mbps HSDPA, and a 3,400 mAh battery.

ZTE V9A Light Tab 2 Coming to UK

ZTE V9A Light Tab 2 Coming to UK
If you do not mind buying a Gingerbread device and you live in the United Kingdom, well good news! The ZTE V9A Light Tab 2 is now available in Great Britain. This tablet sports a 7-inch TFT LCD capacitive touch screen with 1.4GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, Android 2.3, dual cameras (3MP at the back; 0.3MP in the front), FM radio, WiFi, 3G connectivity (no word on service provider), and a battery life that lasts up to 5.5 hours while movie watching.

Also included is the 4GB internal storage with a microSD slot for expanded memory. It comes pre-installed with popular apps like YouTube and Google Talk.

No word on whether the device can be upgraded into Ice Cream Sandwich.

The ZTE V9A Light Tab 2 is also available in Spain, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.

Sprint has a new affordable Android tablet in its lineup ready to be ordered. After being officially announced a few days ago, the ZTE Optik is now up for grabs at the Now Network.

The ZTE Optik has a 7-inch touchscreen, a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of built-in storage space, a 5 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front-facing camera, microSD card support, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 4,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

Sprint to release ZTE V55 tablet in early 2012

Thursday, July 28, 2011

It looks like Sprint has another tablet up its sleeve - unfortunately we'll have to wait until next year to find out what it is. According to a recently leaked roadmap, the company has got a ZTE V55 Tablet that's slated to arrive in Q1 2012.

The folks over at Engadget spotted a ZTE tablet earlier this year at the CTIA and it's been speculated to be the ZTE V55 since it was an unnamed device then. The tablet is said to have a 10.1″ 1280 x 800 display, a 1.2GHz processor, Android Honeycomb, front and rear cameras and a 6800mAh battery. But devices shown at CTIA are supposed to be released in the second half of this year, which is earlier than the date on the leaked roadmap, and the device that was spotted at CTIA was said to be LTE-compatible, something that Sprint is not.

With no other leads, I guess the tablet might stay a mystery until we get closer to 2012 - hopefully Mr. Blurrycam or some other helpful tipsters would have leaked the information by then.

ZTE Light Plus Android 2.3 tablet to cost “less than €250″

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Another Android tablet from ZTE has been revealed in Europe, with the ZTE Light Plus getting a similar “hands on” treatment to the one the ZTE Light Pro received last week. The Light Plus is a more advanced model internally, coming with Android 2.3.3 onboard and a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor.

The 7″ screen runs at a slightly disappointing resolution of 800×480, but it is capacitive and…

…according to French site GPS and Co, ZTE says the Light Plus will arrive for an unsubsidised price of under €250 – which is about £220 at today's exchange rates. Not bad, but odd that even the mighty ZTE can't undercut the Advent Vega when it comes to making a capacitive tablet.

ZTE Light Pro 7-inch Android Froyo tablet launches in Spain

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Let's get something clear right from the start: I don't understand why anyone would buy a tablet running Android 2.2 Froyo in 2011. The ZTE Light Pro (which may or may not be a redone ZTE Light) is such an offering, and what it lacks OS-wise (Honeycomb has been out for a while now, ZTE!) it makes up in price.

The ZTE Light Pro is available from Movistar in Spain. It's got a 7-inch touchscreen, a 600 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, 3G, microSD support, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 3 MP camera, and a 1440 mAh battery.

The tablet has been sold by Movistar for about a month, and you can get it for free if you get a €49 per month data plan. If you'd rather get a cheaper, €39 per month data package, you'll need to pay €19 for the ZTE Light Pro upfront. Business customers pay up to €119 for the tablet, depending on which contract they choose to sign up for.

So here's the lowdown: the ZTE Light Pro impresses through price alone. The specs are mediocre at best, the operating system version it runs is designed for phones, not tablets… on the other hand, it's cheap. So if you're in Spain and absolutely must have a tablet, regardless of its performance, you probably could look at this and find it interesting. If so, just go to Movistar and order yourself one.

Affordable ZTE Light Plus Android Gingerbread tablet coming soon (video)

ZTE has yet another 7-inch Light tablet, this time called ZTE Light Plus. Unlike the Light and Light Pro, the ZTE Light Plus runs Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

Apart from the upgraded OS, the ZTE Light Plus also brings better specs (although nothing out of the ordinary): HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm headset jack, 1GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8255 processor, 3.2MP camera, and MicroSD card support. The screen's resolution has remained unchanged, though: 800 x 480.

The new tablet should become available across Europe in September, for only €250 (about $365).

ZTE Light Pro 7″ Android tablet released by Spanish network Movistar

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Fulfilling our “euro” remit this month we have some photos from Spanish Android news site Paratuandroid, which has got its hands on the ZTE Light Pro tablet. The Light Pro runs Android 2.2, features a 600MHz Qualcomm processor, and our A-Level Spanish (assisted by Google Translate) tells us its using capacitive screen technology.

Sounds like a possible entry level tablet winner from the Chinese tech maker. It's out in Spain, exclusively via Movistar at the moment. If you're planning a holiday…

We've dug up an old press release regarding the ZTE Light Pro, just in case you'd like to read a little on its background. Nowhere else seems to be selling it as yet. And Telefonica owns Movistar. Telefonica also owns O2 in the UK, so you never know…
