News Update :

Vodafone UK replaces Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v with the slimmer 10.1

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Samsung is confusing. In February, it announced an Android Honeycomb tablet called Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This was supposedly headed to Vodafone. Then, a month later (influenced by the iPad 2, apparently), Samsung unveils yet another tablet which it calls Galaxy Tab 10.1. This one though is leaner and slimmer. So the first Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets instantly rebranded and now becomes Galaxy Tab 10.1v – and it looks like it's only going to ever be sold by Vodafone.

Since then, Vodafone has launched the 10.1v in Australia and was going to release it in the UK as well. Only the UK arm of Big Red has now changed its mind, and won't be selling the chubbier 10.1v tablet, but the slim 10.1 model instead.

A holding page is up for the new tablet now. Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing or availability of the ‘new' Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on Vodafone in the UK. When we get those details, we'll let you know.

It will be interesting to see whether Vodafone will launch the 10.1v anywhere other than Australia, or if it will decide to go with the slimmer model in all the other territories where it's got subsidiaries.
